Sixty years ago, at Temple Israel in Los Angeles, Martin Luther King Jr. said that “the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice.” Today, we ask: How do we hold onto Dr. King's words in the face of our current political reality? Using the Jewish Studio Process—a unique methodology combining practices from the field of art therapy with a reimagined approach to Jewish learning and spirituality—we will explore Dr. King’s words and the tensions of our time. Through creativity and reflection, we’ll imagine new pathways toward justice and renewal.
Josh Conescu (he/him) is a Jewish Studio Project-trained facilitator who has been working in Jewish education in the Boston area for 25 years. Before teaching, Josh was an improvisational actor / theatre manager in Seattle. Josh happened onto a JSP intensive workshop in Berkeley in November, 2019. The experience rewired his relationship to Jewish texts, teaching and his understanding of how each of us is uniquely creative.
Jewish Studio Project (JSP) is seeding a future in which every person is connected to their creativity as a force for healing and social transformation. JSP uses a unique methodology, the Jewish Studio Process, cultivating creativity in a Jewish context. It combines accessible Jewish learning with practices from the field of art therapy, opening new pathways to Jewish engagement and breakthroughs in personal and organizational wellbeing. Since 2015, JSP has become a go-to resource for accessible Jewish learning and spiritual connection across the country. Our work provides new pathways into meaningful Jewish engagement, as well as practical tools that promote mental health, resiliency, and professional revitalization.
